Case study: Arabella Ramsay and NOJA Power
International Business Cadet Program 2009

Powering new networks for export success

NOJA Power has experienced first-hand the success that can be achieved from developing new contacts in market through the International Business Cadet program.

Managing Director of NOJA Power, Neil O'Sullivan said that thanks to their sponsorship of Arabella Ramsay as the company's cadet they were able to significantly expand their US client base.

"When Arabella joined us as our cadet in 2009, we set her the task of expanding our existing channels in the US through identifying and appointing new sales representatives," Mr O'Sullivan said.

"The global marketplace is a key focus for our marketing, with our high voltage switchgear products currently being supplied to more than 70 countries.

"Maintaining NOJA's expansion in new markets is therefore a high priority for us, so Trade and Investment Queensland's cadetship was an ideal opportunity to identify new opportunities.

"The outcomes speak for themselves - Arabella identified representatives in more than 50 per cent of the states in which we were not represented, which in turn generated significant sales results.

"Our experience with the program has generated ongoing benefits for NOJA Power, with most of those new representatives still representing us today and making sales."

Arabella has also enjoyed the benefits of the cadetship in her own career.

"Through my work with NOJA Power and the cadet program I gained an excellent insight into the export and investment process for Queensland businesses, and the global economic environment," she said.

"The program allowed me to put into practice my Bachelor degrees in Commerce and Economics from UQ in a very hands-on job, and learn from a highly successful global exporter.

"After the cadetship, I took up a position with Trade and investment Queensland in overseas market development and have recently moved into a role with a global management consultancy.

"I believe the skills and knowledge acquired during my cadetship will continue to provide a positive base for my career."
