Lights, camera, action: the story of a career

Craig Rossiter's leading role in the film industry is the classic story of a work opportunity that has led to a burgeoning career.

Craig was selected as an International Business Cadet by Trade and Investment Queensland in 2001, and placed with Cutting Edge and The Post Lounge, Brisbane-based companies providing post production for the film and television industry.

He was then sent to London to identify opportunities for attracting European film and television production to Queensland, to help Cutting Edge and The Post Lounge grow their market.

"I loved the work I did in London, and the fact that I was helping Queensland companies establish a presence in an overseas market," said Craig.

"The skills and experiences I gained through the cadetship have proved invaluable for the jobs I have since held.

"I was Marketing Manager at the Royal Children's Hospital Foundation in Brisbane, where I developed and implemented the Foundation's first formal market plan, and after that was Senior Researcher at the Australian Film Commission (AFC).

"The film industry has always been my passion, but the experience of the cadetship has ultimately led to the establishment of my own import business and working with filmmakers on capital raising ventures.

"The cadetship gave me a lot of confidence in my abilities and a new appreciation for the skills I had developed.

"I realised there were a range of career options available to me, and I realised I could adapt to any work environment.

"The cadetship was the catalyst for a new phase in my professional career."
