International aid and development business

Overview

International development agencies such as the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, United Nations and AusAID provide funding of over $65 billion per annum to developing nations. Trade and Investment Queensland's International Aid and Development Business (IADB) Unit works with companies, the education sector and other agencies to enhance Queensland's performance in the IADB market.

Many developing nations in the region benefit from Queensland's expertise in:

  • Education and training: The Queensland education and training sector has been involved in international development work for more than 35 years. Queensland institutions have worked on a variety of international projects using services and programs tailored to meet the individual needs of each society.
  • Health care: Queensland's health care industry has a proud tradition of excellence in health care solutions. Queensland firms have solid experience and expertise in clinical and consulting services, education and training, facilities design, construction and fit-out.
  • Governance: Governance is the economic, social and political fabric of a country. Effective governance ensures that transparent decision making and sound fiscal, monetary and trade policies are established which are essential for investor confidence. A number of Queensland organisations deliver a range of services to support development assistance partners to achieve their governance priorities.
  • Infrastructure design and development: Queensland has a reputation for innovative, responsive and independent services for construction management, engineering and environment practices, including water and sanitation systems. Queensland has significant strengths in infrastructure design and development and experience in finding the right solutions to create environmentally and economically sustainable urban developments.
  • Environmental protection: Queensland is developing a global reputation for delivering clean technologies that provide solutions for cleaner water, air and soils; increased productivity; and reduced waste through cleaner production and eco-efficient practices. Queensland's technology and expertise has been developed and tested under wide-ranging climatic and geographic conditions. Our environmental enterprises are also internationally competitive in water and waste water treatment.
  • Agribusiness services and equipment: In response to global economic, environmental and consumer pressures, Queensland's agricultural production and processing technologies are among the most efficient in the world. The agribusiness sector provides services to developing countries particularly those with tropical and semi-tropical climates similar to Queensland.
  • Tropical products and services: With a mega-biodiverse environment and world-class research capabilities, Queensland is fast emerging as a major centre for tropical expertise. Alliances have been formed across Queensland's tropical north, bringing together businesses developing new, or adapting existing, products and services to meet the unique conditions of tropical environments. Combining this with the development, commercialisation, and diffusion of research and applying science and technology, processes, and systems applicable to a tropical environment, Queensland is uniquely placed to deliver solutions to many of the challenges confronting developing economies in the Asia Pacific region.
