Case study: Mounir Sankary
International Business Cadet 2010
Driving export growth for Queensland
Mounir Sankary is building a promising career thanks to the International Business Cadet program, which has taken him from dune-bashing in Abu Dhabi to business meetings in London.
Mounir was selected as part of Trade and Investment Queensland's cadet program in 2010, and placed with Vigil Systems, a training consultancy for large public transport companies.
"Vigil Systems develops, sells and supports technologies for training professional vehicle drivers, including bus and rail transport, emergency response and airports.
"As part of my cadetship, I was sent to Abu Dhabi to conduct market research in the countries of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC) to identify business opportunities," said Mounir.
"It was while undertaking the cadetship that I realised the benefits of combining a law degree with my previous studies in economics and business management, so I'm currently completing a Graduate Law degree.
"Following the cadetship, I was pleased to be offered a position with Vigil Systems, and have since traveled and worked in London, Canada, the GCC and Singapore.
"I currently look after the European, Australian and Canadian markets for Vigil.
"The cadetship was a valuable opportunity to build contacts in Australia and in the GCC, and helped me confirm that I wanted to pursue a career in international business.
"The cadetship was a great stepping stone for an international business career, offering the opportunity to travel, gain in-market experience, build contacts in various industries and countries, and work on international projects.
"The level of support I received from the Commissioners and the Trade and Investment Queensland office in Brisbane was truly exceptional."
