Canada
Overview
Canada and Queensland are natural trading partners with similarities including population spread and regionalisation, and resource rich economies with strong, mature mining industries.
Queensland has formed a number of agreements with individual Canadian provinces to capitalise on mutual interests and priorities.
The relationship between British Columbia and Queensland is an important and developing one that is signified by the Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) (PDF, 580KB ). The MoC identifies mutual areas of interest and a commitment to:
- exploring collaborations regarding clean energy, water stewardship and climate change
- maximising our potential in knowledge intensive sectors
- managing resources responsibly
- developing regional economies and indigenous communities
- promoting bilateral education opportunities
- planning and growth management.
The Province of Manitoba and Queensland have also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) (PDF, 1.3MB) to acknowledge and strengthen the relationship around the life sciences industry. The three-year agreement is focussed on the sectors of life sciences, including biotechnology and agri-health research, and information communication technology (ICT).
Queensland continues to build strong global networks and develop partnerships in this region, with Queensland institutions and businesses gaining a strong reputation in the market.
